Living Water: The Well that never Runs Dry.

A message from the Gospel of John 19:16-30 about Jesus, the Living Water.

John 7:37-39 (NIV)

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

I have light in my soul for which long I had sought,
Since Jesus came into my heart!"

"I have ceased from my wand’ring and going astray,
Since Jesus came into my heart!
And my sins which were many are all washed away,
Since Jesus came into my heart!"

To Make a Pickle: Study 9 in the series Good Beautiful God

Hurry and distraction are nothing new: but in our age we seem to have perfected them. More than at any time in history, we have become obsessed with productivity: speed and efficiency.
...
Our impatience has made life a dizzying blur. And as a result: our spiritual lives are diminished. As we try harder, we are becoming spiritually shallow and deeply disappointed — not exactly a recipe for a robust life.

The primary focus of this chapter is that, to live an authentic and effective Christian life, we must slow down the pace of our lives and become aware of the present moment.

God Transforms: Study 8 in the series Good Beautiful God

For followers of Jesus, the idea that "l am an awful sinner" must be replaced by the narrative that says: "In Christ I am no longer to be defined by sin. I have been reconciled. Sin has been defeated."

Jesus not only forgives the sin of all people for all time, he broke the power of sin itself. This does not mean that everyone is saved. Only those who call upon his name experience that forgiveness.

God not only wants us to be reconciled, he wants to transform us. He not only took away the guilt of sin, but also the power of sin. Those who are Christ-followers not only receive the merit of his work on the cross but actually participate, by faith, in the crucifixion. Regarding this Paul says: "We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin" (Romans 6:6).

We are not only forgiven, we have participated in Christ's death and resurrection. I am not trying to live a sinless life like Jesus. Jesus, who lived a sinless life, is now living in me.

God is Self-Sacrificing: Study 7 in the series Good Beautiful God

Today's message helps us understand why the incarnation (God becoming human), death (the crucifixion), and the resurrection of Jesus were necessary to reconcile humans to the creator God.

God is Love and God is Holy: Study 6 in the series Good Beautiful God

The primary focus of this message is that God is love and God is also holy.
God’s wrath toward sin is an action that reflects that love and holiness.

The talk addresses two false narratives. The first is that God is always angry and wrathful toward us. The second false narrative is that God doesn’t care about sin at all and is more of a “teddy bear.”

Which of these two narratives do you identify with more?

God is Love: Study 5 in the series Good Beautiful God

Performance-based acceptance (legalism) is a dominant idea for many of us despite the fact that it leaves us in a state of constant uncertainty and anxiety The good news is that it does not describe the God that Jesus knows. In fact, Jesus seemed to go out of his way, in both words and actions, to tell the opposite story about God.

God is Generous: Study 4 in the series Good Beautiful God

The primary focus of this chapter is that we do not earn God’s love, favour, forgiveness or acceptance. God is generous and gives them to us freely.

The false narrative explored in this chapter is, “Love and forgiveness are commodities that are exchanged for performance. God’s love, acceptance and forgiveness must be earned by right living.
