Introduction
It should be no surprise that as a Christian church, we struggle with the influence of the world. Scripture repeatedly warns against being “conformed to the pattern of this world” (Romans 12:2) and urges believers to remain distinct as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13–14). This challenge today just takes new and subtle forms through the pervasive influence of social media algorithms and artificial intelligence. These systems are designed to shape desires, amplify outrage, and reward self-promotion—values that stand in stark contrast to the humility, unity, and truth to which Christ calls his church (Philippians 2:3–4; Ephesians 4:15).
Rather than being discipled by Scripture and community, many believers risk being discipled by curated feeds that reinforce individualism and division. The modern church must therefore discern carefully how technology forms our hearts and relationships, resisting the world’s pull toward noise and self-focus by grounding itself in God’s Word, authentic fellowship, and the renewing work of the Spirit (John 17:14–17; Galatians 5:16–25).
That’s why this six-week Faith Runs Deep series is such an important moment for us as a church. In a world where digital noise often drowns out depth, this series invites us to slow down and rediscover the richness of a faith that has shaped generations of Australians. It’s a chance not just to learn, but to live differently—to allow the gospel, not algorithms, to shape our stories and relationships.
As we meet each week in home groups and on Sundays, we’ll be re-centering our identity in Christ and strengthening the kind of community that the world cannot replicate. And while the idea of inviting non-Christians to join us may feel daunting, this is precisely where faith runs deepest—when we step out in courage and love, trusting that God is already at work in the lives of those around us. Just as Jesus called his followers to “let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16), this is our opportunity to embody a hopeful, grounded faith in a distracted age, welcoming others to see the difference that Christ makes in us.
